Ipswich Attractions
Ipswich is a beautiful city, only a 40 minute drive from Brisbane, filled with many natural and manmade attractions. If you’re interested in visiting somewhere that can serve everyone’s interests you should definitely head to Ipswich!
Nugum/White Rock – Spring Mountain Lake
Just a 20 minute drive from the main city is a Spring Mountain Conservation Estate. It’s home to 2,500 hectares of bushland, all of which home native birds, and other animals. This area is perfect because you can walk, horse ride, or bike your way through the area. There’s a choice for all fitness levels spanning 200 meters to 19 kilometers. If you’re not interested in either don’t fear – the area houses a perfect picnic spot!
The White Rock referred to as Nugum or Bookgun is a culturally significant place for the Ugarapul people. Particularly, this area was important for women’s business. It still holds cultural significance today, and as such it is important that no one climbs on the rock. However, during 1912 the area was used for military training. As such you may find remnants of gun pits and bunkers.
Ipswich Queen’s Park
Don’t over look this area! It’s jammed packed with many little goodies and treasures. Some notable features include the council nursery, and a huge playground with a wheelchair accessible swing.
Based in the Queen’s Park features a multitude of different flora and fauna. Set up like a traditional zoo it’s the perfect opportunity to admire the incredible animals that Australia has to offer. Enjoy looking at wallabies, iguanas, and wombats on the specially set out paths. You can even walk through a large aviary and admire the hundreds of different bird species that Australai is home too. If you’re an animal lover you’ll be amazed at house close you can get to the animals as they relax in a comfortable environment.
In Queenspark you can go and have a look a look at the beautiful Japanese gardens. They feature incredible, calming vistas, and short leisurely walks. You can learn about Japanese gardening practices, and compare it to the more wild versions of native Australian bushland! Within the garden there is a tea house that will perform tea ceremonies on the weekends that area available to the public. Uniquely, this garden doesn’t feature only imported plants – but does hold native Australian plants stylized in a Japanese tradition.
Pine Mountain
A 10 minute drive from Ipswich features Watercress Creek Olives and Limes. You can explore the unique limes that are mandarin/lime crossovers. There are huge olive groves and hoop pines that you can enjoy. Meet Bernard and Lorraine Mahon who own a dairy farm that has been running since 1862. This unique piece of history has thrived in the modern era, with the farm producing cordial, olives, chutneys, and jams. The hosts of the farm also welcome visitors bringing a picnic basket and enjoy lunch among the groves.
